Our Story — Rooted in Faith Since 1946
Evergreen Church was founded in 1946 by Bro. Mizzell, a man with a burning passion to see lives transformed through Christ. Driving through Gurdon in his truck with a bold sign that read, “Children brought up in sunday school are seldom brought up in court,” he invited families to experience the love of God and the power of community. That bold vision planted the seeds of what Evergreen would become.
What began as a small gathering of believers has, over the decades, grown into a thriving church family built on worship, prayer, teaching, and service.
For nearly 80 years, Evergreen has carried forward Bro. Mizzell’s mission — creating a place where faith is strengthened, people are supported, and the hope of Christ is shared with the world.
Today, Evergreen remains rooted in that same legacy, passionately pursuing God’s heart while boldly stepping into the future with faith and prayer.

Our mission at Evergreen is to raise up a people who passionately pursue the heart of God, walking in a vital, growing, and life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything we do flows from this pursuit of His presence.

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired authoritative and trustworthy rule of faith and practice for Christians. Therefore, we submit ourselves to its teaching, commit ourselves to do what it says, and yield our lives to become what Christ desires for us to be.

We believe in the power of prayer. Therefore, the ministries and activities our church will be characterized by a reliance on personal and corporate prayer in all areas of our lives and ministry.

We believe in the Great Commission commanded to us by Jesus Christ and we are committed to reaching unsaved and unchurched people locally, nationally and worldwide. We will use every available Christ-honoring means to pursue, win and disciple the people in our sphere of influence.
